By Tourism Sault Ste. Marie
It is said that a year is a long time in politics, well this is also true for mountain biking in Sault Ste. Marie. In the past 12 months new trails have been built, lots of new trails, new bridges have been laid, new lakes have been reached… and to celebrate some of this, we in tourism brought up a celebrated photographer to capture some of the developments on our growing mountain bike trail systems.
First up though, in the spring we released a new mountain biking video ‘Insider info’. Check it out below, it gives a great flavour of the mountain biking scene here.
The Sault Cycling Club built a new Kid-Friendly Trail
Following the success of the family-friendly loop trail ‘Miles To Go‘, the Sault Cycling Club doubled down by building a skills trail called ‘The Powerline‘. This trail runs adjacent to Miles To Go, meaning kids, families, adults, anyone, can session these trails and stay close to the Kinsmen Centre and Crystal Creek System trail head.
The Farmer Lake System went 'Mile High'
Another new trail was added to the Farmer Lake system. Previously your adventure on this system would conclude following the wild ride that is ‘Swamp Donkey‘. Now in 2025 you can now continue east along Connor Road for a short distance before hitting ‘Mile High Club‘, just to the north. This 2km trail is similar in style and difficulty to Swamp Donkey in that it has elevation, rock slabs, tight berms and beautiful views, and chucks you out on Connor Road close to Crystal Lake.

A second beautiful Lake Lookout was added
The lookout at Farmer Lake has become a favourite of many with the perfect photo opportunity (and spot to take a rest at). And now there is another awesome lookout – ‘Crystal Lake’.
Not to confuse you, but Crystal Lake and the new Crystal Lake trail is found on the Farmer Lake system and not on the Crystal Creek System. This new trail, around 0.3km long, is situated just off Connor Road, just to the east of Mile High Club and takes you to this stunning lookout.
A world class Photographer captured our Enduro Trails
As mentioned at the top of this blog, we bought up an awesome photographer renowned for all kinds of work that includes the recent summer Olympics, Leaf games… the list is long. Nick Iwanyshyn visited the Soo a few years ago and shot some video, and we brought him back in 2025 to capture some of the recent developments. Here are some incredible shots of the Enduro trails on the Farmer Lake system that capture the challenges these particular trails bring. Also captured were some shots on Da Big Kahuna, Soonami and TLC, which at 2-3 years old now feel relatively ancient. 🙂
The Salty Marie Trail Fest Happened in July
2025 was year 3 of the Salty Marie Marie Trails Fest, and this event has just grown and grown. Riders are returning year after year and are bringing friends with them. 2025 was another great installment. Check out these pictures, again from Nick, including some pretty awesome captures of the next generation of riders.
The trails linked up with the Hub Trail at Wishart Park
Two worlds collided in 2025 when a new bridge at Wishart Park meant riders could ride from the Hub Trail downtown, all the way to the Hiawatha Trail Network. The centre piece of this connection is a new bridge over the Root River, which is worth checking out itself. And south of the bridge a new, machine-built trail linked up to the Hib Trail via 3rd Line.
The Finn Hill Single Track trail was completed
This year also saw a few final touches to the new single track trail at Finn Hill! This Sault Cycling Club produced trail is a great addition to the urban cycling network that includes the Hub Trail and Esposito Pump Track, and conveniently located just off the Hub Trail. Check out some new photos from it!
